As many of you know, our son, Daniel Smith  was hit and killed by a drunk driver as he was walking home. The driver fled the scene, and tried to wipe the evidence off her car and continued to lie about it, She has shown no remorse. She was initially charged with 2 misdemeanor 1's, and 7 felonies, one  of which was a F1, involuntary manslaughter and was facing a max of 20 yrs. . As of April 25, 2024, the girl who hit and killed our son and kept going,  was offered a plea deal ( against our wishes), it was accepted in court, and she is facing anywhere from probation to 9 yrs ( she was on a 2 yr non reporting probation and had already had 2 recent OVI'S that they let her plead down to physical controls, within two years).  We had started a petition to make the laws harsher and would hold the individuals who commit this crime fully accountable.
And I would like to thank everyone who has and continues to support our son, Daniel Smith and our family. We have had such an outpouring of love and support from so many. Our petition "Daniel's Law" currently has 1203 signatures.  This law would make the laws for a hit and run harsher and hold the individuals fully responsible for their actions.
