In October 2020 the Djabwurrung camps protecting the trees on the Highway were removed by police in preparation for the destruction of 3000 irreplaceable trees along the MRPV Route.

A Supreme Court injunction is preventing further destruction until the Court decides whether destroying the cultural heritage is legal.

The destruction is allowed by the Environment Effects Act 1978.

The Act is 43 years old and out of date.

The following petition to the parliament of Victoria requests a review of the EE Act:

Support the ongoing protection of Djab wurrung country and sacred trees by signing the petition for strong Environment protection Laws.
