It's back to school season, a time of excitement, maybe some apprehension, new starts, fresh opportunities.
Allie should be in 2nd grade. Instead, she was killed in a school zone.
Like so many others, Allie's story is one of a preventable tragedy. There is SO MUCH we could do to make our streets safe for everyone.
The NHTSA rule to consider the safety of those outside of a vehicle is a small step, but one that is urgently needed if we're going to change consumer behavior. We can do more - change street design, drive smaller vehicles, rethink housing policy, invest in transit, improve driver education, expect consequences for careless driving - but that's more than one mom, one family can do.
Until then, please keep sharing the petition, telling everyone you know about the urgent need to save 40,000+ people every year, and demanding better from your leaders.
