Thank you for your signatures! As I write this update, we've got about 22,000 signers. That's half the number of people who died on American roadways last year. HALF.

Please keep sharing this petition. I emailed both a Deputy Assistant Secretary at the Dept. of Transportation and the Deputy Administrator of NHTSA last week about this petition. Let's grow these numbers and keep up the pressure.

When NHTSA proposed changes to the New Car Assessment Program, it failed to include cyclists when testing for automatic emergency braking (AEB) systems because “detecting cyclists is technically more challenging for vehicle AEB systems than detecting pedestrians since cyclists often move at higher speeds.” And that applies to bicycles, motorcycles, scooters, wheelchairs, and more.

Allie was on a bicycle. Did she not deserve to be detected?

You can learn more about this from the League of American Bicyclists. Click the red "Take Action Now!" button and submit a comment in support of considering every road user's safety in testing automatic emergency braking systems. It's easy: the League even has suggested text.

Thank you,

Jessica
