Department of Environmental Affairs has approved the ADZ

The DEA granted environmental authorisations on the 8th January for both the large-scale ADZ proposed by DAFF, as well as the individual aquaculture developments within the ADZ, as proposed by Molapong and Southern Cross Salmon Farm. All Interested and Affected Parties are entitled to appeal the decision and we strongly encourage all of you who submitted Letters of Objection to this development to please also submit an appeal. It is important that the prescribed format and timeline for submission of the appeal is complied with. Save Langebaan Lagoon’s legal representative, Jennifer Kamerman, has begun to formulate the grounds for our appeal, on behalf of our membership, to meet the deadline of 6th February. If you would like us to act on your behalf, please complete the attached Letter of Mandate and return it to this email address: savelangebaanlagoon@gmail.com by Wednesday 24th January. Please note: Save Langebaan Lagoon was formed after the application by Southern Cross Salmon Farm had been commenced. We were not included in their public participation and environmental impact assessments processes. We therefore do not have the right to appeal against their authorisation.
