Keep The Bury in Hemel Hempstead

The Issue

The Bury is a very attractive Georgian Grade II listed house, The Bury, in Queensway, has been the town's register office since 1969, and has hosted around 190 wedding ceremonies, countless registrations of births and deaths.

Dacorum Borough Council wants to close this venue and instead use the New Forum Centre being built in the Marlowes. The Bury will be turned into a Museum, which would be a great shame and a bad decision.

Whilst I am sure the new building will be fit for purpose, it sadly lacks the ornate surroundings of The Bury and is a very sterile venue for weddings, and will also lack the serenity and peace The Bury offered to grieving relatives registering a death.

UKIP Hemel Hempstead calls upon Dacorum Borough Council to rethink their plans and keep The Bury, a long standing and much loved Hemel Hempstead Institution as a registrar's office.
