Notes from Meeting

Hi All, Today I had a meeting with the Head of Sport at NTU about the renaming of the new changing facilities. Overall, the meeting was exceptionally positive with some great ideas bounced around. The most senior people in the University have been sounded out and renaming a building at NTU has never been done before. Inevitably, some NTU alumni do unfortunately pass away each year and many did as much for NTU as Tom did without having something named in their honour. Whilst remaining exceptionally respectful and sorrowful towards Tom's death they feel that this is something that unfortunately, cannot be accommodated. However, the University do wish to do something, as they feel that this is incredibly important. The new changing facilities do have an upstairs social area and the idea was put forward by the sports department that a plaque could be erected on the wall and the room be named 'The Tom Wilson Suite'. I would like to iterate that this is still only currently an idea. The University also wish to take this further and more ideas have come about. Of course, it is well known that Tom signed up as an organ donor. And gave the gift of life to over 20 people. One idea is to put on a big game, with potentially international alumni and make this into a big fundraiser/awareness campaign for organ donation and how important it is, getting the media and sponsors involved also. Another idea that was thrown out there was the suggestion of an annual Tom Wilson Trent XI vs an OLHC Tom Wilson XI, again with the idea of making it into an annual fundraiser/awareness campaign for Organ Donation. I have another meeting with the Head of the Sports department as well as the newly appointed Head of Hockey in the coming weeks so we can lay out a formalised plan, before taking it to the Vice Chancellor.
