We reached a great milestone of 10,000 signatures and we now have a date for handover. The petition will be handed over to, Paul Kehoe TD, the Minister of Defence, one of Tom Crean’s most ardent supporter, Eileen Percival, landlady of the South Pole Inn, Tom Crean’s former home, along with a pupil from St Mary’s School, Sandyford, Dublin, who will be chosen by the Head. The handover will take place on 7th February at the Dept of the Taoiseach in Dublin. I downloaded the petition shortly after it reached 10,000 and such was the eagerness to sign it, another 220 names had been added. The petition will remain open for others who may wish to add their signatures in support. After handover we wait with fingers crossed for the decision that we hope will culminate in the Irish Navy’s new flagship being named LÉ Tom Crean, then the real celebrations can begin.
