In a small setback for our campaign to have an Irish Naval vessel named in honour of Tom Crean, the defence minister Paul Kehoe confirmed that the latest vessel will be named after playwright George Bernard Shaw. However, I always saw a more fitting recognition for Crean to come in the shape of the vessel with full hospital facilities to be utilised for humanitarian purposes. So, as this vessel is still in the planning stages, the fight will go on and it would be extremely useful for us to garner the support of a politician to take up this cause in the corridors of power.
