The Honorable Loretta Lynch Attorney General of the United States U.S. Department of Justice 950 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW Washington, DC 20530-0001
Dear Attorney General Loretta Lynch:
I am a United States citizen writing to you to express my concern over the case of the murder of Tamir Rice, and the placement of Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Timothy McGinty on his case.
On November 22, 2014, twelve-year-old Tamir Rice was shot and killed in Cleveland, Ohio by Officer Timothy Loehmann while playing with a toy gun in a park. It has been over a year since his murder, and neither of the officers involved in Tamir’s shooting has been charged with a crime.
County Prosecutor Timothy McGinty has openly criticized Tamir’s family as having Dzeconomic motivesdz in seeking justice for Tamir, and his bias against the family means he is not fit to be prosecutor on this case.
I am one of over 200,000 people who have signed petitions asking that County Prosecutor Timothy McGinty be replaced with a Special Prosecutor. Tamir’s killing was captured on camera, and yet there is still no justice. Any assistance that you or your office can provide to ensure that a Special Prosecutor is appointed to Tamir’s case, and that Tamir’s family will find justice, would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
