Reduce the infringement for failing to log-in to Cellopark, and add features to allow students/staff to log their intention to park ahead of time.
The issue
Parking at Curtin requires students and staff using PAYG parking to use their mobile phone to log-in to the Cellopark app when they park. For students, there is no option to buy a buy permit and the Cellopark app does not allow you to log your intention to park ahead of time. It is easy to forget to log-in and penalties are very high, particularly on a student budget, at $45. Parking inspectors regularly check cars, meaning $45 is a higher amount than what is required to deter PAYG users from intentionally not logging in.
The parking fine should be reduced - as it stands it is a revenue raiser and punishes staff and students who intend to pay parking but make an honest mistake and forget to log in on the Cellopark app.
The Cellopark app should allow the user to log their intention to park. Many Cellopark users have a regular timetable and they should be able to log their planned parking days at the start of the week or month so that they don't have to remember to log-in every time, and don't need to access a phone or computer immediately after parking.
