Have you ever wanted to work with an amazing team of people to create a remarkable new Boulder Open Space? The Open Space system including places we love like Chautauqua and Eldorado State Park only exist because people cared and took action together.
Come to the first volunteer meeting that will lead to the creation of Boulder's newest wild and free place: the Meadowlark - Jumping Mouse Open Space: a remarkable wetlands and meadow habitat with beautiful hikes and bike paths immediately south of Boulder.
There is an urgency here - to increase power and corporate profits, the University of Colorado wants to bulldoze these wetlands and riparian meadows that are home to many rare plant, animal and butterfly species.
And some pro-development Boulder Council Members running for re-election and in need of political support are doing everything they can to help the University expand city limits to swallow up this key habitat area and proceed with construction of 1,000 apartments/condos and sporting fields.
Why Volunteer?
You'll be trained and developed to be a highly effecting contributing member of a wilderness protection team.
You will be able to use your expert professional skills be it communications, event organizing, photography, web design, fundraising or legal or fundraising and accounting skills to win the creation of this new Open Space
You will help save the the globally and federally endangered Preble's Jumping Mouse that exists in only a small corner of Wyoming and Colorado front range wetlands like the ones at CU South and the adjacent South Boulder Creek Natural Area.
This meeting will be a wine and cheese potluck for people to say hello to the all volunteer team and explore how satisfying contributing to the community and wild spaces can be!
Please bring an item to share like cheese or fruit or a bottle of wine or other snacks/beverages. We are looking forward to seeing you at this fun and rewarding garden party with great people!
