CT - House Bill 5754 for Nail Technicians & Estheticians & Eyelash Ext.

CT Coalition of Esthetics
17 feb 2019

Dear CTCE Member,

The State of Connecticut is facing a difficult issue passing regulations for health and safety for women's health. Connecticut is the only state in the U.S. that does not require nail technicians and estheticians to perform nail treatments, waxing, facials and eyelash extensions to complete educational requirements nor pass a state licensing exam. CTCE needs your support to ensure that your safety is a priority for the Department of Public Health.

We have yet to receive a hearing from DPH, which is quite disconcerting. Proposal of House Bill  5754.Everyday women in Connecticut are exposed to bacteria, blood borne pathogens, fungus, burns and injuries. Nail salons are also being used as a tool to traffic women sexually as well as underpay employees.

Two members sit on the Board of Public Health and are responsible for giving us our hearing. Representative Jonathan Sternberg and Senator Mary Abrams. They need to hear why your safety is important and why they must find provide us with a public hearing to hear the proposal in which will provide us with safety as well as funding for regulations. There are two important ways you can show your support and be heard:
Submit written testimony in support of HB-5754: Share your support and why it is important you and your family members are safe and not exposed to harm and disease when getting your next pedicure or spa treatment. Email your testimony to Jonathan.Steinberg@cga.ct.gov & Mary.Abrams@cga.ct.gov. You may also call Representative Steinberg at 860-240-0562 or Senator Abrams at 860-240-0584 to ask when we are receiving a hearing date so you can attend in support.
Contact your home town's legislators: Call, write or email using the attached resource, explain why you think your health is at risk due to lack of rules, regulations and training. Ask them to support HB-5754. It is especially important to contact legislators who sit on the Department of Public Health.
Please feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions or ideas that can support our efforts. If you are emailing or sending a letter, please include the map in our attachments.

Best Regards,
