URGENT. WE NEED YOUR HELP BUT FIRST I WOULD LIKE TO SAY A BIG THANK YOU TO EVERYONE THAT HAS ALREADY SIGNED THIS PETITION....WOW....WE NOW HAVE 6,126 SIGNATURES. Australia is currently having a Myxomatosis virus outbreak especially in South Australia. But as we all know what starts in one place doesn't take long to spread to the whole country. The Australian government refuses to let us have the Myxomatosis vaccine for the deadly Myxomatosis virus. WHY....because they the Australian government want every rabbit in Australia DEAD one way or another. The government don't care if the rabbit is a family pet or a show rabbit, a sanctuary rabbit or a breeders rabbitry. Of course the government can give you any number of reasons but most of this information is out of date. We all appreciate that the wild rabbits can cause devastation to farmers crops, but so do feral cats, dogs, & pigs etc but they can also cause injuries to people, rabbits don't. BUT I'm not talking about wild rabbits I'm talking about domestic rabbits. Myxomatosis is a dreadful virus & there are only two outcomes & that means you either watch your rabbit dying from a horrific painful death or take it to your vet to be euthanised. Either way the final outcome is the same....DEATH. How do you explain to your kids that their pet rabbit is destined to DIE? The virus is spread by the pesky, sneaky mosquito or by a movement of already infected or dead rabbits to other areas. Whilst we are all taking every precaution possible to keep the mosquito out of our homes, sheds or barns they are so sneaky they lay in wait at your door & are carried in on your clothing, and before you know it your rabbit or rabbits are in the first stage of Myxomatosis. In two weeks or less your rabbit will be DEAD. So if you are reading this you have already signed this electronic petition & unfortunately you can't sign it again. BUT.....if you are an Australian have you signed the most important hard copy / paper copy? It is vitally important that you do. PLEASE. Not just to your family, friends, your local vet or pet shops but by posing to other media outlets too. We need more voices / signatures for the Australian government to hear & not just keep palming us off with outdated information. One reason the government give is that although the vaccine is available overseas because it's a live virus they will not import it. Don't the government realise that all Australians know that Australia has one of the best research laboratories in the world.....THE CSIRO. Whilst everyone seems concerned about the petitions on elephants in Africa or India or Brown bears in chains in China or many other animal petitions it seems so many people are NOT aware of the plight of the Australian rabbits. Please help us by signing & sharing so we can help the rabbits of Australia. In the time it's taken me to write this & for you to read it, more rabbits are now infected by the Myxomatosis virus & in about two weeks will be DEAD. There are now hundreds of families & especially young children grieving for their pet. If this was your pet cat or dog or horse that the government wouldn't let you have a vaccine for how would you feel? No doubt the same as we feel about all our rabbits.
