Dear red wolf petition-signers,

Thanks in part to your efforts, there's finally an opportunity to help fund wildlife crossings for endangered red wolves in North Carolina - and they need it! Vehicle strike are the number one cause of death for the last wild red wolves, with 5 wolves killed in the last 12 months.  Unfortunately a major highway (US 64) runs through the north side of Alligator River National Wildlife Refuges where many of the wolves live, and there are only around 17-20 red wolves left in the wild.

A generous donor of Wildlands Network - a nonprofit organization that has spent years dedicated to red wolf research and outreach - has made a $2 million challenge offer if another $2 million can be raised for the crossings. Even better, that combined $4 million would then enable NC Department of Transportation to apply for a $16 million federal grant (they need a 20% nonfederal match) - that means if $2 million is raised by the public we can leverage that at a 9:1 ratio and total $20 million dollars for multiple wildlife crossings and fencing along US 64 in the red wolf recovery area! This is incredible!

The deadline is approximately August 31 and here are 3 ways you can help:

Donate directly to this link, hosted by the Center for Biological Diversity, which is assisting with the fundraising: https://redwolf.donorsupport.co/page/FUNUMPWQHVM?fundraiser=NRRRJXJP&member=SLHSXNFY
Pledge a larger (> $5000) donation to be made when NCDOT is successful with their grant application- email ron@wildlandsnetwork.org for more information here
Share this email far and wide if you are not able to donate- or if you are!
