We hope our update finds you all very well :)
It has been far to long since we have provided an update. So much has been going on in the back-ground, but now seems the perfect time.
Every-day has been hard since our world was turned up-side-down on the 25th December 2021. The days, weeks, months and years have been incredibly difficult but the one thing that has kept Debbie, Lillie's mummy, Michael, Lillie's brother and our family going is our fight for Lillie's Law.
Finally, after many emails, phone calls, zoom and face to face meetings, we received a phone call from the Transport Minister, Lillian Greenwood to confirm the government are taking the time to look at various road issues, including our proposal for Lillie's Law.
It is very early days but we are very hopeful that we will see the changes so desperately needed on our roads. The laws are so archaic, they are not fit for purpose. How on earth the laws have not been reviewed before now is a mystery.
The simple question - when someone 'kills' (murders in our opinion), on our roads, whilst under-the-influence or dangerous driving, should they be permitted to drive during the investigation period?
NO...is the answer yet, currently, that is exactly what is happening. In our case, the person that Killed Lillie drove for 12 months after he killed her, 12 month of freedom, no consequence to his actions, 12 months to visit his family, laugh with his friends, go on holiday...and drive!
On so many levels these simple, every-day examples are wrong but to be permitted to drive after you took the life of an innocent human being is disgustingly outrageous.
Now...we need your help - the Government have encouraged us to share the link below. The link will allow you to have your say. You can be part of this historic change to our road laws. Your opinion will play its part in the final outcome
We have over 40,000 signatures - if half of our supporters (Lillie's Army) take the time to complete the questionnaire (link), we believe the Government will have to take action.
Lillie's Law: We are not confident the Law change will be referred to as Lillie's Law officially, (we are trying) but for our family it will always be Lillie's Law. The most precious, beautiful, funny, caring young lady had her life stolen from her in such tragic, unnecessary circumstances. For us, this change will be Lillie's legacy and if it prevents one family from going through the torture of having a child/loved one killed, our fight for justice would not have been in vain.
Please take a few minutes to complete the questionnaire. You can complete them all or skip those that you do not wish to partake in.
