Create Official Plane Spotting and Aircraft Viewing Areas in Cyprus
The Issue
As an aviation enthusiast and plane spotter in Cyprus, I would like to see a clearer and more welcoming environment for people who enjoy observing and photographing aircraft across the country.
At present, aviation enthusiasts in Cyprus have limited recognised options for enjoying plane spotting around the island’s airports. The lack of clearly designated viewing areas and accessible guidance can create uncertainty for both enthusiasts and the authorities responsible for airport security and operations.
We are asking the relevant Cypriot authorities and airport operators to establish clear guidance for responsible plane spotting and aviation photography in Cyprus, and to explore the creation of designated public aircraft viewing areas at Cyprus airports.
Similar facilities exist at a number of major European airports, where dedicated viewing areas allow aviation enthusiasts, families and visitors to observe aircraft from suitable locations while remaining separate from restricted airport areas.
Cyprus could adopt a similar approach. Designated viewing areas could provide enthusiasts with appropriate places to enjoy their hobby while also offering an attraction for families, tourists and young people interested in aviation.
Paphos International Airport could be an excellent location for such a facility, but the wider goal of this petition is to create a clearer and more supportive approach to responsible plane spotting and aviation photography throughout Cyprus.
We therefore ask the relevant authorities and airport operators to:
- Provide clear public guidance regarding responsible plane spotting and aviation photography in Cyprus.
- Identify suitable locations where aircraft enthusiasts can safely observe and photograph aircraft.
- Explore the creation of official aircraft viewing and plane-spotting areas at Cyprus airports, including Paphos International Airport.
If you support making aviation more accessible to enthusiasts and the public throughout Cyprus, please sign and share this petition.
