I am working as a veterinary nurse and doing this in my spare time. I campaign and believe I can make a difference, or at least I try. I believe that as a community we should have a voice and that if there is an option to increase the safety of vulnerable road users, then we should take it.
I can hand on heart say I feel at risk walking, cycling or riding down Birch road. I do not believe it makes sense to stay on the road when there is a grassy margin directly next to the road we walk, ride or cycle along. Birch road is meant to be a quiet country lane, then why do we see HGV's that take up the width of the road? Birch road is two miles out from Colchester city centre, with more and more housing and development in the area of course there will be more traffic. Especially with the new housing estate being built in Layer as we speak. The problem is the speed of traffic, the blind bends and the lack of places to safely pull over, out of harms way.
I have video footage of incidences we have experienced riding that road. I have friends who have very nearly been injured and I mean seriously injured, whilst riding there. I have friends who will no longer use that road because they fear walking or cycling down it and friends who do not want their children to walk to school.
Yet I am told my facts are laughable?
Please help me get to 1000 signatures to show Low Carbon that this doesn't affect just me. This pathway will help generations to come to enjoy the great outdoors, the countryside and our public rights of way network in a SAFE and ACCESSIBLE way.
