About a year and a half ago, you signed a petition asking DC City Government to create a permitting process for parklets (small parks created by taking over a parking space or two). Great news: DC's first parklet opens tomorrow on K St! We heard directly from DC Department of Transportation (DDOT) that the petition helped staff make the case internally that the public supported this idea and that the city should issue regulations to make parklets happen. And over the last 18 months, we've been working with DDOT and they've rolled out process for small businesses and neighborhood groups to sponsor parklets. We've also been working to connect small businesses with DDOT so they have a handful of pilot projects to start. The first parklet will open tomorrow at 2020 K St. NW!
