Say NO to proposed highway through Old-Growth Forest in Sooke Hills Park!

This petition made change with 180 supporters!

The Province of BC and the Council of Sooke have announced that they are considering to construct a highway through the the Sooke Wilderness Regional Park!

This sensitive area preserves critical old-growth temperate rainforest. It also acts as a buffer for our water supply and for the Goldstream River.

The Capital Regional District's (CRD) Regional Water Supply Commission has voted against the road project, but we need to let the rest of the CRD and the Sooke council know that this project could endanger the ecosystem, cultural sites, wetlands and streams within this protected area!

On Wednesday, February 27th, the CRD will be holding a public meeting regarding the Parks and Environmental Committee! Although this is short notice and many of you won't be able to attend, we want to give you a chance for your voice to be heard. So the more names we can get onto this petition, the better chance we have of convincing decision makers to reconsider!

It's also important to understand that this project is trying to address the traffic problem that is the Malahat. Anyone who has driven on it knows how challenging it can be. This highway expansion is not the right solution so we need to be involved however we can to be part of the problem solving and critical thinking to address this issue while preserving our environment.
