Background checks on hopeful new pet owners (Nevada)

Millions of pets are taken home each year only to be brought to a place of torture and in many cases, death. This petition is inspired by the Jason Brown case, where Brown brought home 7 dogs that he found on Craigslist, and brutally murdered them all in a motel room in Reno, Nevada. Many unfit owners such as Brown often put up a front to the person giving away the animal, and make it seem like they are excited to give the animal a happy and loving home; But little do the owners or dogs know, they are on their way to the worst experience of their lives. No animal deserves a short life of horror and pain because somebody lied about their credentials as an owner and as a human being.

Background checks to see the hopeful owner's medical and criminal histories would be extremely beneficial in preventing cruel people like Jason Brown from buying or adopting pets. I also believe that finding out how many pets they've previously owned and the pets' health conditions is important too, to see exactly how they've taken care of pets in the past.

By uniting and taking action to stop animal cruelty in homes, we can improve the lives of thousands of animals in Nevada. And with enough help, we can secure safer and more loving homes for millions of animals worldwide.
