CRAIGSLIST STOP ALLOWING PUPPY MILL/BACKYARD BREEDER ADS

With Craigslist, puppy mills and backyard breeders are thriving, contributing significantly to the pet overpopulation. Every year Millions of adoptable pets are "destroyed", due to lack of homes. The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals estimates there are about 10,000 puppy mills in the entire United States, which produce what's thought to be around 2 million puppies each year. Every year, approximately 2.7 million adoptable dogs and cats are euthanized only because shelters are too full (and have limited resources) and there aren't enough adoptive homes.
Craigslist rules state: "no animal sales or breeding -- rehoming with small adoption fee is ok" yet they continue to allow these ads to stay up on their site. They do not enforce and when the violation is reported they still do not take down these breeder and animal sales ads. They are supporting puppy mills and backyard breeders, who often sell puppies with Parvo, worms, congenital defects and other conditions. In some states, they are illegally selling these animals without a required breeder license, yet Craigslist still allows these illegal ads to stay up.
What we ask Craigslist:
- Don't allow breeder ads! Don't allow puppy mill ads.
- Don't allow ads selling puppies, kittens and other pets for more than $100, and ad must list the price. Only allow ads that are legitimate rehoming.
- Don't allow ads selling free pets. Many of these pets end up victims of abuse and torturing.
- Don't allow ads of puppy/kitten for sale that are less than 8 weeks old.
