This update is not only to let you know what we are asking of the government but to also share a few suggestions / highlighting offers made by various stakeholders to help resolve this situation for everyone involved - School Management, Teachers, Parents, Students, all Staff Members and our Government.

#Covid19 : Fee Hike Roll Back & Easier Installments 

In light of the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic leading to a nationwide lockdown, many school managements have stated their willingness to roll back the fee hikes (which they had announced prior to the lockdown) and offer easier (quarterly) installments for payment of the annual fee towards education/tuition and other services offered by schools. 

#Covid19 : Online classes & learning

Many private schools have started preparing their faculty for online classes. Schools have/are investing in technology - hardware, learning platforms and better internet bandwidth, while also training their teachers on the latest technological tools and software to ensure that we continue teaching and learning even during the lockdown.

A teacher shares her experience 

“Moving away from face-to-face interactions and the classroom environment, today, I have my class on my laptop screen with a virtual whiteboard. While it may seem easy and convenient, it is important to note the backend work that goes into planning for every single class. This includes preparing activities with the help of various apps, a mix of online platforms for creating audio-visuals, sharing files, webinars, creative assessments to check for understanding and spending time to select the right online tool for the right activity. It takes a lot more effort to teach a class online, than offline.” 

REQUESTING ALL TEACHERS, PARENTS, ALUMNI, CITIZENS who believe that 'LEARNING MUST CONTINUE' - to come forward and sign this petition. 

We request the government to reconsider the notice. Following are the asks from this petition: 

1. REVOKE: the government orders to prevent private schools from collecting fee for the academic year 2020-21  
    
2. CAN AFFORD: Parents who can afford to pay their children’s school fee should be allowed to pay. 
    
3. CAN’T AFFORD: Those who cannot afford to pay the fee now should apply for a concession (easier installments, defer fee, partial or full waiver, etc) from the schools. This should be backed by evidence and certified documentation such as income tax returns, bank statements, documents to show loss of salary or job, etc. 
    
4. INTEREST-FREE LOANS (either directly from the GOVERNMENT or via BANKS): provide interest-free loans to private schools to sustain the school and their learning community through this time of global crisis. 

By carrying out the above suggestions, The Government of Karnataka will enable schools to pay salaries to our nation’s builders -TEACHERS and continue to invest in educating our children for the opportunities and challenges of the 21st century.
