You are receiving this letter because you are in close proximity to the asphalt plant coming soon to the Linscott gravel pit—and we need your help to stop it.
Some neighbors have donated financially already, but we need EVERYONE who will be affected to COME TOGETHER to stop this move or we won’t be able to fight financially (lawyer fees are estimated to be around $35,000 totally).
But whether you choose to give financially, in auction donation, or to volunteer your time and effort—WE NEED YOU.
We have battled the move by Interstate from Sandpoint to Sagle since 1995, and 99.9% OPENLY OPPOSED this move at all open hearings and meetings yet still it was approved by County Commissioners and this is our LAST CHANCE to stop it. Our lawyer has found that though the move was approved, that it was ILLEGALLY DONE—and that the Bonner County Comprehensive Plan Ordinance on nonconforming land use is being VIOLATED.
You know the dangers of having an asphalt plant in Sagle—serious health issues, including breathing difficulties and increased cancer rates; toxic pollution to our land, water supplies, and air; rising risks of deadly traffic accidents with heavy trucks on unprepared roads, peace nuisance disturbances through higher noise levels, and our surrounding property values plummeting 27% for EVERYONE within a mile of the plant.
ALREADY Your Bonner County has a SIGNIFICANTLY higher level of CANCER than Idaho’s others—Studies indicate asphalt fumes and particles are carcinogenic which would support the claims of more cancer in areas of an asphalt plant. This is EVEN WITH Sandpoint requiring the plant to maintain PM10 particle standards by the EPA but no amount of filters can stop the contamination. Commissioners claimed, if it was harmful, more people lived in closer proximity at the Sandpoint location - so less people would be affected, or hurt, if it was in Sagle but this is OUR HOME.
