Sadly, Alice Lee will likely be seated this morning on the Maui County Council.

Given how hard Alice is trying to restrict your right to participate in your government, while we still have the ability to testify, all citizens should speak out today against Alice being appointed as Council Chair.

ALICE WANTS TO RESTRICT PUBLIC TESTIMONY

Alice Lee proposed new, authoritarian, anti-open government rules that would eliminate early public input on any resolution she chooses, fast-tracking around committee hearings and public testimony.  

Alice Lee wants the power to skip committee and public input, which currently requires a Super-Majority, 6 to 3 Council vote taken AFTER a 1st round of public input. 

Alice's authoritarian power grab eliminates at least three rounds of public input and four weeks of advanced public notice, informing us only six days before the Council’s first read, regardless of how controversial the legislation is.

This minimizes community awareness and drastically limits any community group from organizing public testimony, something that the Council’s rules have historically and appropriately specifically protected.  

While our rights are still protected, please log on this morning and testify in defense of your right to testify.  The rules themselves will be heard next week but replacing Tasha Kama with Shane Sinenci as Council Chair today instead of Alice Lee will go a long way to suppressing Alice's heavy-handed authoritarianism.  Testify on Reso 23-16
