Maui's precious coastline is being destroyed and ONLY YOU CAN STOP IT. Maui's famously illegal Injection Wells are not the County's only violation of Federal Environmental Laws. For decades, Maui County has systematically circumvented Federal Laws that mandate Pubic Input on Coastal Zone Development, laws intended to protect the environment. Loopholes that hide fraudulent permit applications and exemptions at the discretion of the Planning Director have allowed thousands of multimillion dollar, private spec homes to be built with no oversight whatsoever, no environmental reviews, no public input and no inspections. Not only have we citizens lost our access to our beaches, the resulting toxic storm water runoff from these luxury properties is destroying our reefs, killing our ocean life and eroding our shorelines. The cost to our environment and to Maui taxpayers is staggering. All to the financial benefit of Fat Cat Developers, their Lawyers and Licensed Consultants.
