This petition is to draw attention to how the Country Club Plaza allows people to exploit the cruel labor these horses endure year round. After an accident this weekend involving a scared breakaway horse, it's time to reevaluate what we are doing to these poor animals who breathe the toxic fumes of cars and trucks all day. Horses hooves are not meant to be spending the day walking on this kind of surface. In the summer, conditions are extremely humid and the pavement gets extremely hot with temperatures reaching 110 degrees. The location from which they walk the horses to the plaza is about a 45 minute walk. Sadly, winter is not any better. Recently, the plaza has invested in two new "carriages". One is a sleigh that holds about ten people. The other is a trolley that holds over twenty. Forcing horses to pull oversized loads isn't romantic, it's cruel and inhumane. Furthermore, these carriages endanger the horses with the heavy traffic the Country Club Plaza sees every year. In turn, these animals can suffer from respiratory illnesses from breathing in exhaust, and leg problems from constant walking on pavement. Finally, horses are very sensitive to loud and unexpected sounds. The Plaza sits in the middle of the city and always sees heavy traffic. If a horse is spooked, it's a hazard for everyone. These animals do not deserve to suffer daily for the frivolous entertainment of people. They deserve to have a voice, let's be their voice and be the change!
