Stop the Sale of Bedford Union Armory for $1
This petition had 351 supporters
There are over 70,000 people who are homeless in New York City and that number is rising. The homeless population is everywhere; in trains stations, parks, playgrounds, sidewalks etc.. Crown Heights has the highest rate of displacement of people than any other community in New York City.
Yet our local Councilwoman Laurie Cumbo has no problem with selling off 1/3 of a city block located in the Bedford Union Armory, in Crown Heights, for $1 to enable a developer to build 56 multi-million dollar Condos.
The other 1/3 will have two high rise Luxury buildings with 335 apartments, and only 18 units will be truly affordable to the residents in Crown Heights.
The other 1/3 will be semi-private facilities, which includes a swimming pool, tennis and basketball courts.
Please sign our petition and let Councilwoman Laurie Cumbo know that public land should not be given away to make developers rich. That it is an mis-appropriation of our public assets to give away 1/3 of a city block for $1.
Tell Councilwoman Laurie Cumbo that you are aware, that despite whatever she says, if this deal moves forward it is because she has given her blessing and on Primary Day "September 12, 2017", you will cast your vote accordingly.
