Hartlepool Council Check for Microchips on dead cats as well as dogs
The Issue
We call for all domestic animals to be covered, regardless of their condition, and for their owners to be notified when they are found dead. I am a passionate & caring cat lover who happens to work in the local community and help look after the local feral and stray cats. Drivers are only obliged to stop and report an accident to police if they hit a dog, horse, cow, pig, goat, sheep, donkey or mule.
There is nothing more heartbreaking than when one gets killed after being knocked down. Animal charities & vet practices are educating owners to get their cats microchipped but what is the point if the local council so fast the owners can not find them. We have a very good facebook group that people notify on when one is seen dead by the road but most times the council gets there before we can and does not check for a chip,
If you check out the group on facebook called ''hartlepool lost and found pets''. https://www.facebook.com/groups/320985481281214/.....it does a lot of work finding these cats aswell as strays and lost cats. Looking at this group will show you how many locals are missing a cat that may have been knocked down and taken by the council and the owners can never find out. if a microchip is not looked for.
Lets all tell Hartlepool Borough Council that they need to change and start checking for microchips in cats.
