Save the Ealing Jazz Festival

CAN YOU GIVE US 30 MINUTES OF YOUR TIME NEXT TUESDAY? Thank you so much for being one of the over 1600 who signed our petition. The purpose of this message is to update you on progress made with the Council and to request that as many of you as possible demonstrate the strength of local feeling by attending a protest meeting next Tuesday evening (see details below) The update is that the Save the Ealing Jazz Festival Group has been in touch with local MP’s, local and regional press and the Council through various sources including Councillor Bassam Mahfouz. There has been much correspondence which has been largely unproductive. A meeting was held with Councillor Mahfouz and council officers and amongst many problems there is a reluctance on the Council’s part to provide information justifying its startling decision to decimate the enormously popular Ealing Jazz Festival. Many points raised by us remain unanswered but there is no sign yet of the Council changing its decision. The Group has decided to press the Council for information on its calculations as according to our information the savings do not exist when you take account of loss of income from tickets and bar and food proceeds. We will be attending the Council meeting at Ealing Town Hall on Tuesday of next week (12 April) to ask the question and we would like as many people as possible to turn up at the entrance to the Town Hall at 18.30 and make the entering Councillors aware of the amount of public feeling. You will be there no more than 30mins although there is space in the public balcony for up to 40 people to stay on and listen to the response. I am sure that the press will cover the event and it would be good if you could make a simple banner. Say what you like on what could be just a simple A4 sheet of paper but we would like to see a number saying:- SAVE OUR OUR EALING JAZZ FESTIVAL !
