“This press release from the City Ethics Commission dropped today. It directly names Councilmember John Lee as the person identified as #StafferB in the previous federal indictment, says Lee assisted his boss (convicted former Councilmember Englander) in trying to mislead the FBI, and accuses Lee of violating 9 counts of City ethics laws.
“It conveniently notes the $34,000 he and his friends received in bottle service on their Vegas escapade — paid for by persons with business before the City — is larger than the maximum gift he’s allowed to receive — and that he also never disclosed receiving any of these gifts. Lee even admits to getting $1000 in casino chips — he says he lost it all playing Baccarat.
“Oh, and the document also mentions a certain election, saying Lee ‘misused his position as a City Councilmember to ... create or attempt to create an advantage for himself and a disadvantage for his opponent.’ (Yes that opponent would be me.)
“These violations will need to be heard in an evidentiary hearing and voted on by ethics commissioners, but given how much of this has already been confirmed by the FBI, that doesn’t seem to be a high bar to reach.”
