Petition update to 31K people: 

I received an email  from CSL parish, saying words the effect that the Parish council intends to continue business as usual for at least another 2 years, and will NOT,  I repeat NOT cancel contractors spraying herbicides and poisoning bees and citizens.   So the message I previously received from councillor LISA DAVIES, who wrote to me that she was suspending spraying until a public consultation in June, was sadly a FALSE.

Their decision seems to be based on do not believing the 31K signatures on this petition are ‘relevant’ , because not all are from CSL residents.  (My email inbox from CSL & Somerset residents is overflowing with messages of support) As if your petition voices not being relevant…. simply shows they are THAT arrogant.   

Greenpeace won a landmark victory several years ago,  whereby a judge upheld the view that direct actions taken to protect the planet, regardless of ‘who’ took them or ‘where’,  they were taken, were for the common good and they were released without charge.   It doesn’t matter if the people signing this petition aren’t all from CSL,  because actions that damage biodiversity locally, also damage biodiversity globally.   It affects us ALL,  regardless of where we live.  

They have also taken this decision BEHIND CLOSED DOORS, without ANY public consultation whatsoever,  or even a Parish council emergency meeting as I had requested.  At the same time they are claiming on social media they are acting with transparency,  whilst blocking me and this petition from being seen by residents, which is the opposite of transparent.  

It demonstrates their previous announcement of declaring a CLIMATE EMERGENCY was just lip service.    That NONE of the parish council clearly has any education or knowledge about the threat of climate change, environment, biodiversity being a legal requirement to protect, or indeed the issues surrounding pesticides & herbicides that have been raging in all forums of public debate for years.   They are choosing to IGNORE the science,  ignore the fact pesticides and herbicides have been proven time and again to destroy biodiversity.  The WHO list glyphosate (the active ingredient in roundup and similar brands being used here) as a probable carcinogenic.   

I received another message from the clerk stating none of the CSL councillors have ANY environmental qualifications,   yet these same people are making dangerous decisions which affect biodiversity and peoples health.    

They falsely claimed the Somerset Wildlife Trust advocated using herbicides in small amounts to kill weeds.  SWT has told me they did NOT say this,  and do NOT advocate their use.   They are asking CSL to print a retraction of this false statement.  

It is clear that CSL Parish council is uneducated and ignorant in all things environment. It adopts a draconian,  self congratulatory attitude. It seems fond of mis quoting organisations like the SWT to falsely convey they have support for spraying toxic chemicals, when they do not!!.    

BL PC on the other hand, has been very keen to discuss this issue, are double checking some questions I’ve asked, and are engaging with me positively on this subject.
