Bernard Deacon summed it all up nicely in 2016:

“While I don't think we should let the Government and the Tory Party get off the hook, I can sympathise with Norma's point. Locally, the planning officers have taken every opportunity since 2011 to pursue what's basically a developers' agenda and ignore or dismiss both questions about technical issues (e.g. faulty data) or wider issues (e.g. long-term unsustainability or environmental/cultural impact of population growth).
Before 2013 they were being encouraged by a very pro-housing growth Tory/Indie CC cabinet. However, since then neither the Lib Dem/Indie cabinet nor the wider body of councillors in general have tried to rein them in or told them to seek out and work up a robust case against high housing numbers. This has made the Council fatally vulnerable in appeals and Local Plan examinations when the developers and their agents only need to smugly echo Cornwall Council's planning department's arguments right back at them.
In short Cornwall Council has not only shot itself in the foot, but in both feet and a few other body parts as well. And the question remains - why didn't all those councillors who are now so concerned about the high housing targets challenge and control their own officers in 2011-14? The main problem seems to me to be political leadership.”

Please, please, please, absolutely do NOT, we repeat, do NOT support:

Time and again, the people on this list have supported large scale development to profit only national developers, decimate local communities and wildlife, whilst urbanizing their own towns for all but local young families needing affordable housing. Many here have even ridiculed, disparaged and/or attacked local campaigners for justice, fairness, decency and viable quality and affordable housing.

Another "affordable" development springs up with the new free-for-all Cornwall Council-backed housing policy, in Perranporth, this time.
