New evidence that Cornwall Council does not deal with planning in an impartial way has been unearthed.
A community activist has inquired with Cornwall Council as to whether the large hoardings in a field adjacent to the A390 gloatingly advertising the proposed 'Langarth Major Urban Extension' and the hopelessly ill-advised 'Stadium 4 Cornwall' have the required planning permission.
The Council replied that "The advertisements erected require planning permission. Planning permission has not been sought for the advertisements and therefore the matter is a breach of planning control." However, the Council is clearly unconcerned with this particular breach of planning control, as it went on to say that "in this instance it is considered that there is insufficient harm caused by the advertisements to justify taking further action."
Apparently, the advertisements exceed the requirements relating to the number, and maximum area, of the signs to be displayed. Further, the advertisement boards should only be permitted while the building, engineering or construction works are taking place on site.
Yet the Council has determined that it it is not "expedient to pursue the matter further." In other words, the Council is prepared to turn a blind eye to flagrant breaches of planning regulations when these are committed by its developer chums in the aggressive urbanisation plans they both have for Cornwall.
Excluding Cornwall's 14 main towns (Truro, Re'Druth, Camborne, St. Austell, Falmouth, Newquay, Penzance, Bodmin, Helston, Hayle, St. Ives, Penryn, Wadebridge, Liskeard), this petition's support has also come from many other towns, villages and hamlets across the Duchy, including:
