Petition updatePlanners, Councillors, Inspectors and MPs have failed Cornwall and MUST stop the damageDeja vu? Developer's FREE stadium suddenly boomerang's back with £6m taxpayer price tag

After the Richard Lander School U-turn (council promises no housing development on old site; now an expensive Taylor Wimpey urban sprawl across Higher Town), the Council drops another bomb shell: the proposed FREE stadium for Cornwall, will be publicly subsidised, initially they think, to the tune of £6 million. But hold on... they have raised another £8m (of which £2m from soon to be evicted TCFC), so the total cost of this fantastic new facility in the middle of Cornwall's biggest traffic jam will supposedly cost a total of £14m; where did this figure come from, because if Cormac are involved, you should at least double this?! The new Truro pool cost £8m.... 20 years ago, so with steel and other materials rising 20-30% in the last year alone, we can't really see how a state of the art, modern, all purpose stadium with conference facilities will cost just £14m; and then who's paying for the running costs? And presumably there'll be no rates - compared to the extortionate business rates which have driven so many small Cornish businesses out of their hometowns - but who will be responsible for the estimated £7m annual cost of running the sewerage for a stadium and 1,500 homes (initially) from storage tanks from Chiverton to Newham? Is this just another pie-in-the-sky, barmy, other-people's-money idea from John Betty, Phil Mason and the other part-time mercenaries at Cornwall Council? Beware, because this doomed white elephant, to benefit a dubious developer, some council officers, a millionaire rugby club owner, and Kevin Heaney's former Football Club, will all come back sooner than you think to bite Cornish taxpayers on the bum.
