A common sense message from one supporter: "Housing development is everywhere at the moment in Cornwall. There are not many places you can go nowadays and not see someone building, whether it's small plots, big housing developments or big superstores, etc... However, local schools, hospitals, shops, etc..., are on the verge of breaking point, if not broken already, and people that work in these places are persevering without any let up. I tip my my hat off to these people, with a massive sense of pride and respect to you. Cornwall's infrastructures need to move forward relative to the increase in population and with the increase in housing. However, there does naturally come a tipping point where we will start to lose the natural, green and beautiful landscape, as we progress. Please be aware and fight for your rights. If you do not want something to happen, then get involved and place your energy down that path of change, because if we just standby and watch, it will be too late. The world around you would have changed, and without your say, you could one day wake up, open your eyes and not like what you see. Look after our Cornwall!! X" Transcript of an electronic discussion between Cornwall Councillor (CC) and a Truronian (TR) in December 2015: "Truro Resident: You a Cornwall councillor for Camborne? Cornwall Councillor: Yep that's me TR: Can I ask which way you voted on the prince Charles and waitrose-inspired complete lash up at Trugurra, where Union Hill and Tregolls road meet, outside Truro? CC: It's a while ago and I'm not on strategic planning now, but as I remember I was in favour of park and ride and recycling but nor retail development TR: It's the biggest f*** up in Truro (and there's plenty of those here). I moved out of Tregolls in 2006 as the situation then was a mess. This whole retail park bulls*** was a cover for Duchy/Charles and the developer to make a few mill and build more unsustainable and unaffordable s*** in Truro, which needs it like a hole in the head, in the process destroying another greenbelt, a beautiful valley and Truro's natural border in the Northeast. The P&R is a poor excuse to add massive chaos to an already mad area, and also provides a green light for developers to start bulldozing every space towards Tresillian. It's an absolute tragedy for Truro on every level, and those misguided enough to have helped this scheme have done us no favours (Ellis, Greenslade, Wallis, Wood, Mann, Fitter, Flashman, Pugh, Glenton-Browne), nor those like Mike Varney who were probably hoping for a last hooray payment from the developers, as his history with Wain Homes in Falmouth already demonstrates. I'm sure you were well intentioned, but trust me when I tell you that what you guys allowed there is a monumental f****-up for Truro and all residents, Cornish er no.... I don't blame you, as being Camborne, you're probably not entirely familiar with up here, but others that allowed it will not be forgotten anytime soon... CC: Thanks; I think at one time Truro wanted it all or at least become the retail/ business center of Cornwall now it's going too far and is difficult to stop, Truro was never designed for what it's become. Regards TR: I agree, yet a*** holes at planning and on SPC are still passing/allowing loads of s*** everywhere, for all but locals (especially young ones), from Arch Hill to Threemilestone (both sides), and it's not just the locals suffering, every single resident is experiencing problems with massive infrastructure shortfalls, especially roads, but also GP & dental surgeries, air & noise pollution, school places, and of course the new lost city of Atlantis: Treliske, which is difficult to reach unless you're the air ambulance. And when you reach it, they now charge you an arm and a leg to visit dying relatives & friends! It's a mess my friend - in less than 20 years - and the quicker some of the ostriches realise that, at county hall, the better for the rest of us ordinary mortals... Please pass on my best to Phil Mason; excuse my language but what a lame c***. CC: Will do, not that I see him anymore. TR: Does Graeme? CC: Don't think so he's not on the council anymore. TR: Did he vote for the f*** up in Truro too? I really wish people only had the power to make decisions in their own pig s***, because Truro's gone from being a lovely close-knit Cornish community and market down, to a car-fest freak show and free-for-all anonymous perma-building f***up, in just 15-20 years.... I know Druth & Ozell not been spared either, but why f*** over everybody else's towns too? We're fast becoming another Newbury or Reading: ugly, expensive & anonymous, and you'll be lucky if you recognise anyone here anymore, let alone hear a Cornish accent... It's f****** tragic. Surprised Bert's not keeled over!! TR: With hindsight, would you vote for this project? CC: There are a few like that, we were often warned about appeal costs to the council and so local tax payer. TR: So we're putting through hundreds of illogical, irrational, unpopular & unreasonable projects because we can't fight properly against them. Again, it's a disgrace and certainly makes developers' statements that Cornwall is their paradise and 100% full proof, more understandable. NOTHING seems to get in their way, not even intelligent and willing councillors, because the council's planners and legals seem completely useless or at best lame. So in conclusion, you yourself didn't vote for it because you were in favour of part of the scheme, but because like others you were concerned about the costs of saying no?? You didn't answer my question!! With hindsight, knowing and seeing what you know and see today, would you have voted for this project? CC: There are a few decisions that I would look at again. Including that one. But coming from the west I have never felt Truro is very cornish. In fact rather snobbish. Often I have heard Truro members snearing at Camborne /redruth etc. So I have little sympathy. I did what I thought was right at the time. TR: It was completely wrong. It only feels snobbish to the outsider precisely because the council planners keep allowing the development of large estates all over our green belts - sometimes under cover of supermarket/stadium/retailer/P&R, etc.... This town was very Cornish, not long ago, before tesco, sainsburys, wain homes, persimmon homes, etc..., took over and evicted local farmers, characters and any Cornish soul from the town... And you're contributing to it because of a misconception, misunderstanding or just dislike? Problem is, this has set a precedent and before you know it, Camborne, Re'Druth and other Cornish towns will have the same lobotomy operation applied to them too... It's a local joke in Falmouth that Varney did U-turn and took a Wain Home as payment for agreeing to all their cheap s***, but I thought other councillors were less gullible/corrupt/anti-Cornish/pro-big up country business (pick whichever)... I'm not only sadly disappointed by these decisions, I have a physical tear run down my cheek every time I pass some of these senseless, unaffordable, unsustainable blots on our once beautiful Truro/Cornish landscape... And for what?? To house all but the Cornish..."
