AN OPEN STATEMENT TO TRURO AND FALMOUTH LIBERAL DEMOCRATS FROM THE CORNISH SOLIDARITY TEAM. We are very flattered indeed to note that Truro and Falmouth Liberal Democrats have shared the recent open letter to Mrs Sarah Newton MP. On one level, it clearly proves that notice is being taken of what is being said by Cornish Solidarity! On another level, we must put this equally ineffectual political organisation on VERY CLEAR NOTICE that we will not tolerate cheap political capital being made through the good offices of Cornish Solidarity. The Liberal Democrats went into coalition with the Conservatives with little benefit to anyone except the pipsqueak Clegg, who strutted the stage as Deputy Prime Minister for a time. They are also guilty of introducing, with undue haste, the disastrous unitary authority that now pretends to run Cornwall. The heavy price for this egotistical arrogance was subsequently paid at the ballot box. Not since the untimely death of beloved Cornish Liberal MP, David Penhaligon, has Cornwall had the benefit of the sort of robust representation it so desperately needs and indeed deserves. David Penhaligon’s replacement Matthew Taylor was elected out of sympathy, in the bleak aftermath of the great man’s loss. For some time, Taylor was blandly adequate due to nothing better being on offer, but he eventually accepted a peerage, having sold out to the developers who are currently trashing our beloved Cornwall. This opportunistic behaviour put him firmly in the ranks of the various traitors who, in recent times, have sold Cornwall out to the great god of endless growth, and we all know where that has taken us. We put it to you that many of us were true Liberals back in the day, but became aghast at what that venerable organisation transformed itself into, when it jumped into bed with the Social Democrats. That is the very reason why Cornish Solidarity came into being, out of disillusionment with the greed, corruption and sheer incompetence across the entire spectrum of the mainstream political system. Cornish Solidarity reserves the right to criticise without fear or favour or indeed praise, and encourage whenever and wherever necessary, in pursuit of competent ethical governance. Thank you Kevin for putting into words what a lot of us think. We all need to take a stand against these people who do not care about Cornwall but are only out for themselves.” “Hi Kevin, it seems rather bizarre that Sarah Newton's response makes such play about the protection afforded to Green Belt land (six references). How this can "address your concerns" when as far as I am aware there is not a single acre of Green Belt land in Cornwall? What a ridiculous response from her. Keep up the good work.” “I've read some of these comments, and it is so refreshing to see that the majority of Cornish, or people who have lived here for a while and taken to our culture, are of the same opinion. Therefore I cannot understand why the Council and some councillors are blind about the views of most of the people they are supposed to be representing. I've smelt a smell like this before; it smells of corruption, I hope for their sakes, but mostly ours, that they also read these comments, and start representing us as they are supposed to.” “This needs to be headline news, the wanton desecration of the Cornish countryside for a few greedy individuals over the many unhappy few! Their greed knows no bounds and is equally shared by an incompetent County Council, and let's face it, you have to be pretty incompetent to be so much in debt. Consultants brought in at exorbitant fees to tell us what we already knew, leaders here for a couple of years who are bloody useless, who then leave with the required golden handshake. And so it goes on with the clarion call of “we will have to cut frontline services as we don't have enough money”, oh here's the thing, why not cut a few useless councillors, consultants and crackpot ideas, because we have some pretty barmy ones. North Helford signs all over Falmouth, Gweek, Constantine and surrounding areas, result in tourists without a clue where they are!!! I could go on but you get the idea; colossal waste of money only to be removed because, hey, it didn't work; you think?! The overdevelopment is a way for the strapped Council to make money at Cornwall’s and its long suffering inhabitants’ expense.” “When a planning consultant from Derbyshire tells me that "Cornwall is the easiest County in the UK to get planning permission". The fruits of Cornwall Councils, past and present, spineless, non-existent opposition to planning dictates from Government and weak representation has meant that as the man from Derbyshire said, "We love Cornwall".. One should note that the Directors of Wain Homes, a major despoiler of Cornwall all live in or near Okehampton.” “Not surprised at the above comments, most towns are asking for bypasses, Camborne gets the east west link road, right through the town and a new housing development with lots of children on it, no 20 mph speed restrictions, no traffic calming. This all equals fouler air and even worse traffic problems. Complete shambles”
