After four months of this petition, we have close to 4,000 supporters asking the Chief of planning to go!
Whilst more traffic sends the Nitrogen Dioxide readings sky high, in Truro, St. Austell, Bodmin, Redruth and other cities, the large national developers keep building huge unsustainable estates, at a rate 2.7x higher than the national average. And then we wonder why rates of asthma and other breathing difficulties are increasing fast....
28/11/2017 - Council report :
"Monitoring has shown that air pollution levels in Launceston are higher than they should be and therefore an ‘Air Quality Management Area’ (AQMA) should be declared."
26/05/2017 - Council report update:
"Our monitoring has showed that air pollution levels in St Austell are higher than they should be
We have monitored levels of nitrogen dioxide in the town for several years and identified that there are several areas where levels of nitrogen dioxide have reached levels above the UK objectives and the EU Limit
The AQMA was declared in March 2014."
13/04/2017 - Council report :
"We have been monitoring nitrogen dioxide levels in Truro for several years. The biggest source of nitrogen dioxide is the exhaust gases from cars and lorries travelling on the A390.
Our monitoring has showed that air pollution levels in Truro are higher than they should be...
It was therefore concluded that an Air Quality Management Area (AQMA) should be declared. Following a public consultation in early 2015, the AQMA was formally declared on 1 July 2015. The Council has decided that the entire city should be declared as an AQMA due to higher pollution levels being found"
14/07/2017 - Council report :
"Our early monitoring showed that air pollution levels in Gunnislake were higher than they should be, so we carried out a detailed assessment of air quality in the village in 2011. The detailed assessment confirmed that there was poor air quality along the A390 and Defra agreed that an ‘Air Quality Management Area’ (AQMA) should be declared"
18/05/2017 - Council report :
"Air Quality Management Areas (AQMAs) have been declared for the Camborne, Pool, and Redruth (CPR) area in 2005, Bodmin in 2008, Tideford in 2011, Gunnislake and St Austell in March 2014, Truro in July 2015, and Camelford in January 2017."

A few recent comments from supporters:
"As widely reported on Television and local media, Phil Mason failed to declare an interest in St Agnes schools expansion last year, he signed it off, (passed it) even though he was chairman of St. Agnes ace academy management body who had submitted the application in the first place. He paid no attention to local opposition or the views of the majority of the Parish Councillors at the time. In fact our local member Pete Mitchell told us it was a done deal (!) and pointless to disagree as it would happen anyway! Another totally spineless individual; so much for local democracy. Phil Mason’s failure to declare an interest was hushed up after the event and no action taken against him. It was only the digging of a local parishioner who exposed it in the first place!"
"More houses aren't the answer without the infrastructure to support it, like schools jobs and hospitals. We have too m any shops that we don't need like supermarkets and now a stupid drive in Costa Coffee, we need money spent on hospitals and schools as they cannot cope with the population already here as well as the influx of people in the summer months. Get the infrastructure right before building more houses unless the houses are specifically for local people that already live here."
"Just saw this petition. At long last! Someone standing up against Cornwall Council. Let's say this, the corruption inside this local authority is unbelievable and more and more are speaking out. One thing though, how do we stand a chance against such a self serving, nasty organisation in the face of their corporate bullying? Step out of line and they get heavy. It needs an investigation of the internal workings, the Cormac set up and their in house legal bullying office. Try and take them on as an individual and they come for you. Incidentally, try asking how many of their elected members fail to pay their council tax, take backhanders on planning projects and the like! Then there is the planning officers themselves! They have caused me years of misery. Cornwall Council - the most rotten of rotten boroughs!"
"Tried to get to an event at a friend's just the other side of Truro the other day. It took an hour to get to from Chiverton to Treliske, at which point I gave up. What will it be like when the other developments are built at Langarth etc."
"Sadly our misguided Planning officer hides his head in the sand.
Probably waiting for his golden handshake. To me he has a lot to answer to.
Not only me but generations of the future. This is the governments and Cornwall Council's answer to providing growth. God help us all."
"The time is not far distant when all these things which make up the beautiful whole of Cornwall will have been whittled away." - Charles Henderson, 1928
"Perranporth also suffers from a completely inadequate sewerage system. The lorries are lined up outside the pumping station regularly when it can't cope. How can we possibly cope with even more housing developments when the infrastructure is already unable to deal with the existing situation. Our school, doctors' surgery, and sewerage works are all overflowing!!"
"It is not just getting to the Hospital which cannot cope anyway with the amount of people down here, it is trying to get anywhere either side of Truro that is becoming a serious problem. Chiverton Cross is now a real problem."
"This is all clearly illogical.. Not only are the schools full, (with no space now to expand, as developers / local council have sold surrounding land.) But the health centre, doctors, banks now closing & post office... Where is the work, or the life style that is being sold... Down the swanny river off sewerage... That can't cope ALREADY... New houses being flooded by sewage..?
Oh but local council get money for council tax, water rates, all utilities etc, etc... Not for farming productive land..? Get in soon, before Brexit & all subsidies goes...
We were self sufficient, before E.U. we've got squeezed to our bollocks by it all, & "cute" characters are up for making the best of it before WE are able to take the reigns again.? But if we don't kick up, & make a noise, the fat cats will build unnecessary houses on our green fields, fill it with people who have no chance of work, with no banks, post offices, limited bus services .. Oh but we get their council tax..?? Too corrupt.."
"Not just Cornwall Council which is beyond the reach of local influence but of course the big contributions to political funds from supermarkets and developers"
"There are some astonishing revelations here. Corruption within Cornwall Council (and its agencies) seems institutional. There are serious allegations of malpractice as well and I am sure that we can all see the terrible mess being made about our landscape and the fairly low standards of the housing being built - still sadly too expensive for the average Cornish person. I am just amazed that this isn't making headlines in papers and on the news. Or have they been gagged? Signed with pleasure."
