But it was your department’s strategy for “8-9 years”, Mr Mason!!
Please watch from 1h30’ in the webcast below, as Phil Mason gives his vision for a better Cornwall. Having failed to get good quality homes for Cornish residents over the past several years (building control?), he now wants to deliver the government’s building programme, if the council allow him to borrow £600 million (ish? So maybe it’ll cost £700-800m, if Cormac are involved) to give residents the quality they want. Really? And just as inflation and Interest Rates go up; so another millstone around Council taxpayers' necks …
Mr Mason says they’ve started the process – ahead of full council meeting – looking to get approval via the scheme of delegation… so bypassing councillors completely then??
But at least he acknowledges that he’s there to serve us! Perhaps we’re getting through to Phil Mason after all. It’s therefore ironic when he states that development should be “place-based” and working with neighbourhood plans to deliver things that locals want, yet has done exactly the opposite for the past ten years, and was supportive in November 2016, of a regional inspector pushing through a Local Plan for 52,500, including a provision for 5,000 additional second homes! I wonder which Neighbourhood Plan asked for another 5,000 second homes?!!!

But at the same time:

Brace yourselves for huge council tax increases as Cornwall Council adds to its £2 billion debt burden (including the pension shortfall), with this pie-in-the-sky scheme which will most certainly turn into a very expensive, unaccountable quagmire within 3-5 years.
Phil Mason admits that this would require a completely new set of people to make this work; can we start by replacing him straight away, and then sort out the debt, the services and the planning department, before embarking on another ill-fated council expedition?!
Meanwhile, calls for Phil Mason’s resignation keep growing:

One supporter says:
"What on earth is going in inside Cornwall Council?
I don't hear anyone speaking well of them. We are seeing building sites everywhere including on prime agricultural land, and tourism is running out of control and destroying the very thing people come here for. Cornwall Council appear to be a nasty self serving enterprise who have turned their backs on the very people who actually fund them, i.e. us, the local business and council tax payers.
Reading this leads me to sincerely believe that Mr Mason is a dangerous idiot and the sooner gone the better. Are they that insulated in their glass palace in Truro that they do not know how poorly they are thought of?"
