In Tintagel, planners misrepresent local and expert views against turning Cornish heritage into a Disney theme park! One Redruth councillor wrote to the council, planners and Westminster: TINTAGEL CASTLE DISNEYFICATION – STORM CLOUDS OVER HISTORIC CORNISH SITE Last week, the Planning Committee of Cornwall Council met and decided by a majority of 13 votes to two to approve English Heritage plans to build a ‘flyover’ style footbridge at Tintagel castle. This decision was made against a background of ongoing ‘Disneyfication’ of Cornish heritage. We have already seen Land’s End ruined. English Heritage, now a charity which administers Tintagel and other sites in the Duchy on behalf of the Duke of Cornwall, has already carved what is allegedly the face of Merlin into the rock face at the site, as well as erected a statue of Arthur to draw yet more tourists to the site in an attempt to turn it into a cash cow.
