Some bedtime reading for councillors, once they've sacked the developers' choice: Phil mason! www.cpre.org.uk/resources/housing-and-planning/housing/item/4677-needless-demand-how-a-focus-on-need-can-help-solve-the-housing-crisis? Another angry Truronian's letter to the West Briton: Time to halt housing rush I, like a lot of other people, have massive concerns over Cornwall Council’s housing policy. Isn’t it time to stop destroying this lovely part of our country? I refer to Mr Nick Pennington’s letter regarding the council’s policy to allow even more properties to be built around Truro, and I couldn’t agree more with him and his views. It isn’t only Truro; it is all over Cornwall, as Mr Pennington pointed out. Where are the jobs coming from? What about our road structure? We will not be able to cope, I think; the summer holidays are a classic example. The way the council is allowing houses to be built, it won’t be long before the congestion of summer will be a common sight on our roads all the time. The drainage/sewer systems: can they cope? I would say no. It’s everything that it seems our council is not taking into account. My wife’s family was originally from St. Ives. We moved away many years ago, but would return most summers for our holidays; but it wasn’t until we decided to move back that we noticed how Cornwall has expanded. It is unbelievable! I’m sure councilors have made some very wealthy property developers. I’m sorry; it’s a real disgrace, the way our county has been allowed to expand. I can hear people saying we need affordable housing for the younger generation; but what is affordable housing? If they wish to buy, can they afford it? I would say no, and that is not only in Cornwall; that is all over the country. The council is supposedly going to build some “council housing”. What I would like to know is will these be offered to youngsters or Cornish people or will they allow people to flood in from outside the county to accommodate them? If they do, that is wrong. I say look after your own first. The last and the most important thing is the Royal Cornwall Hospital. Yes, all the councilors and media are running it down, placing it on black alert, but isn’t it the council who should be held to account for this? Surely if they didn’t keep allowing all these properties to be built then the hospital would not be in the situation it finds itself in? They close a lot of smaller hospitals, and the Royal Cornwall Hospital is the only major hospital we have in Cornwall. I appreciate there is the Derriford Hospital, but that is in Devon. The only thing I can see from where I stand is things will get worse – a lot worse – unless a halt is put to this crazy building scheme that our council supports. I, like a lot of other people, think ENOUGH is ENOUGH. I do wonder what goes on in these planning meetings. I wonder if they would be as reluctant to allow people to build extensions, or for a farmer to build new barns, or a house for his siblings, as they are to let these fat cat builders keep blighting our countryside with all these new builds.
