A letter sent in March re. St. Ives luxury development in the Treloyan woods

Aug 22, 2017 — https://youtu.be/M1Il3vsBI4k Dear *****, Excuse the umpteenth rant, but I just received this YouTube footage (above) and my heart bleeds. I posted the link of this rank environmental vandalism (in 21st century Britain! How the hell can we point a finger at Indonesia, CAR or Brazil?!!), and the first comment/response that came was "how can this be legal?"; indeed... Please look me in the e-eye and tell me that a few more luxury and locally generally unaffordable flats in St. Ives was worth losing a pristine green gem, including one of Cornwall's best and last ancient growth woodland?? What lunacy! What planning anarchy we allow, when the flawed government planning and development agenda is blindly pursued by OUR council (of wise men??) with one ultimate goal: housing targets (and 'ansum profits for fat cats) AT ALL COSTS. We sacrifice our children's future so a few big development boys can buy a swimming pool, a Rolls Royce or a luxury yacht, and sell Cornwall to the gold rush diggers, looking for ever more sources of quick profit to keep the government's economic growth agenda on track. What happens when growth stops, as it has done in Japan for two decades (and in France, Italy, Greece, Russia, Brazil in recent years), or when the UK population reaches 100 million (on an island which 'experts' once said, could only sustain up to 40 million people), or when Cornwall becomes as built up/crowded as Nice and Monaco or Singapore and Hong Kong, where other 'experts' now look for ways of bringing the green back into choking cities, or as sprawling and socially damaged as American giants like Detroit and Cleveland, where the population halved in just 2 years (following that well documented western banking and growth model cataclysm, in 2008-09), and the city centres have reverted to mass allotments to try and feed the growing masses living in shocking poverty? Cornwall council, as John Pollard himself said about himself, completely lacks vision, a serious master plan and probably a brain too, to operate its many wandering (and often aimless) tentacles. As I keep hearing and reading across Cornwall's media, it is not fit for purpose, it is rudderless and bouncing from chaos to crisis and back again - a bit like Treliske Hospital, according to all of its senior clinical staff (apart from the most senior one recently jailed after he hoodwinked his lies past the control panel!) - whilst it (the council) attempts to find rather poor and crass ways to plug its own mismanaged finances. Council tax? Really? Is that the best way the council could think of refilling its empty coffers? Sell, sell, sell all the family silver - in this case, it's green, not silver, and it's our kids' future, not the council's own treasure; but selling cheap to business vultures, e.g. Persimmon, Wain, Barratt, Wimpey Taylor, etc..., and even subsidising these societal parasites, to build the cheapest, ugliest, flimsiest out-of-character junk, all over our greenbelts (there's a reason for that term: the clue's in the word!), is more than environmental suicide, it's generational travesty, treachery and madness, for which future generations (already much more environmentally aware and savvy than us) will certainly not thank us. In fact, they'll probably question our sanity! As I watch, daily, the main A39 between Falmouth and Truro, turn from practically deserted - even in Summer - some 20 years ago, into the (Phil) Mason shuffle of cars, speeding at up to 4 or 5mph, bumper to bumper from Arch Hill to Treluswell (those magic roundabouts should be twinned, now that they are tied by a constant and unbroken slow-moving metallic chain!), I wonder where and how Mason's additional 52,500 magic homes plan will fit in. Even worse, I read last week that the council is considering CPOs on some homes in Holmbush (St. Austell) due to dangerously high levels of nitrogen dioxide in the air (Truro too is under AQMA!). Have you seen how many shells Wain Homes are currently installing a few yards away, also in St. Austell??? Has the planning department gone completely mad?!!! Is it really unable to make a causal link between thousands of new homes and.... thousands of new cars?? Does Phil Mason even exist, or like the Packet Pirate, is he just a wind-up merchant thought up by JP? Or perhaps, did he too lie completely about his qualifications - it happens, look at Treliske - and he actually only has an O-level in geography from the institute of traffic management in Sark?!! I cry when I think of the absurdity of what our own council - paid for by us to run local affairs - is allowing due to its complete incompetence, bordering on gross negligence to generations of future Cornish kids.
