Air Quality in Truro

Cornish Community VoiceTruro, ENG, United Kingdom
Aug 10, 2017
In January 2015, Cornwall Council published this report (see attached), which effectively placed much of Truro in an Air Quality Management Area (AQMA), ie. we, our children and elderly relatives were already being poisoned.
That was before the past 24-36 months of additional development. St. Austell is even worse and they have had to place some CPO on homes in Holmbush!!
An extract:
"Monitoring of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) is undertaken at a number of locations in Truro. Monitoring has been undertaken over a number of years and has indicated that exceedences (sic) of the UK annual mean and hourly objectives for NO2 are occurring in several locations. This is due to traffic volume, congestion, street-canyon effects or a combination.
At Highertown and Kenwyn Road some significant reductions in levels of NO2 will be required in order to meet the annual mean and hourly objectives. Although levels of NO2 at Highertown are predicted to be met by 2020, levels are currently increasing and therefore the predicted trend for reductions in levels of NO2 cannot be relied upon in this location. It is therefore likely to be some time after this date before the objective is met, particularly as traffic flows and congestion will increase with planned development.
It is therefore concluded that an Air Quality Management Area (AQMA) should be declared. Due to planned development and the distance between the two areas where exceedences (sic) have been identified, it is proposed that an area covering the whole of the Truro urban area is declared including the land included within the Threemilestone Development Brief.
