lapeer has been a stickler about the youth skateboarding in residential areas and in the central business district(downtown) for years. I grew up facing cops who have nothing better to do than threaten to take property and get you in trouble for riding a skateboard. So many would benefit from this. The lapeer local skateboarders, scooter kids, and bmx kids ride downtown because there is no where to ride. It’s the last resort for most of us. Everyone I know that skateboards downtown literally doesn’t do it to get in trouble it’s just we don’t have any other options. We’d rather the kids doing drugs and selling drugs downtown be harassed then us locals just looking to hangout and follow our dreams. Lapeer needs a skatepark and the city doesn’t do anything to help us get one so I decided to take matters into my own hands and petition for one.
