CONNECT CDO AND BUKIDNON: SAFE, RELIABLE, AND ACCESSIBLE TRANSPORTATION FOR EVERYONE
The Issue
For many people in Bukidnon, Cagayan de Oro is more than another city. It is a place where they go to study, work, seek medical care, buy necessities, visit family, and pursue opportunities.
For people in Cagayan de Oro, Bukidnon is equally important. It connects the city to communities, farms, businesses, schools, and families across the province.
But for these communities to remain connected, people need transportation they can depend on.
Travel should not mean spending hours waiting for a ride, worrying about whether the next vehicle will arrive, struggling with limited options, or facing unsafe and inconvenient travel conditions.
Transportation is not simply about moving vehicles from one place to another.
It is about moving people toward opportunities.
📝 It is time for concrete action.
Our petition calls on the Department of Transportation, LTFRB, DPWH, local governments, and transport operators to work together toward safer, more reliable, and more accessible transportation between Cagayan de Oro and Bukidnon.
We respectfully call for:
🔹 More reliable and sufficient public transportation along major CDO–Bukidnon routes, especially during peak hours.
🔹 Clear and consistent schedules so commuters can better plan their trips to school, work, appointments, and other important activities.
🔹 Safe and well-maintained vehicles and roads, with proper attention to passenger safety and road conditions.
🔹 Better coordination between CDO and Bukidnon transport authorities to address gaps in routes, schedules, terminals, and passenger services.
🔹 Accessible and transparent fare information so commuters know how much they should reasonably expect to pay.
🔹 Better passenger facilities, including organized waiting areas, clear route information, and safer loading and unloading points.
🔹 Stronger protection for students, senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and other passengers who rely heavily on public transportation.
🔹 Long-term investment in regional transportation infrastructure, including projects that improve connectivity between Cagayan de Oro and Bukidnon.
This is especially important because transportation problems do not affect only commuters.
When transportation is unreliable, a student can be late for class.
Northern Mindanao's Regional Development Council has identified transportation infrastructure and connectivity as regional priorities because efficient movement of people and goods supports economic activity across the region.
At the same time, the government has been providing assistance to transport workers in Bukidnon amid rising operating costs, including fuel assistance and livelihood support.
Supporting commuters and supporting drivers should not be treated as opposing goals.
A better transportation system should work for both.
Drivers deserve sustainable livelihoods.
Passengers deserve safe and dependable service.
Students deserve transportation they can afford.
Communities deserve roads and transport systems that connect them to opportunities.
