INDIANA: We Need a Law to Make It Illegal to Leave Pets In Hot Vehicles

The Issue

According to the website www.animallaw.info, Indiana has no laws at all to protect animals or bring those to justice who leave their companion animals in vehicles during the warm Indiana months.

We hear about innocent dogs mostly being left behind in vehicles, only to succumb to the interior heat.

According to the website www.onegreenplanet.org , It may be 78 degrees outside, but the temperature inside a parked car can climb at a fast rate to between 100 and 120 degrees in a matter of minutes. In less than 10 minutes, a 90 degree day can actually have an interior temperature as high as 160 degrees. Water on our stove boils at 100 degrees. Can you imagine the pain and suffering this would cause, waiting, panting, scratching at the window and door, hoping to escape? It would be a cruel and inhumane way to die.

Having this law in Indiana would help educate people on the dangers of leaving pets alone in vehicles in any weather condition. But especially hot summer months where the temperatures can rises within minutes. Leaving a window cracked does not help. Even 15 minutes left alone in a parked vehicle can be deadly. It is a fate that can lead to brain damage or death. No pet deserves to have this happen to them, so please help me get this law passed and all the pets in Indiana!
