Dear Congressman Davis and US Postmaster General:

I am writing this petition because I learned recently of a plan by the US Postal Service to study whether to close our local post office at 2345 S. Wentworth in Chicago’s Chinatown. This is extremely worrisome news. That post office serves a growing community, especially new immigrants and elderly residents of Chinatown who tend to be less mobile, have language issues, and are not likely to venture even a short distance to an unfamiliar neighborhood.
Our community, made up of many new immigrants, has grown steadily over the years because of the accessibility of services within the Chinatown neighborhood. Many of us work long hours and rely on public transportation. We frequently send letters and receive packages from our families abroad. The post office at 2345 S. Wentworth, in the heart of Chinatown, is convenient for us because it is in our community close to our homes and workplaces. The closure of this post office would be devastating.
I write to ask that you to please do what you can to prevent the closure of Chinatown’s post office.
