This morning, we are pleased to report some very good news....
Since 2018, our partner organization, the Center for Prosecutor Integrity, has sent a series of letters to the U.S. Department of Justice, urging the DOJ to terminate its funding for guilt-presuming, due-process defying Start By Believing and trauma-informed programs.
You can view the four letters HERE (scroll to the bottom of the page).
Yesterday End Violence Against Women International, the group that sponsors Start By Believing, issued this announcement:
- our last federal technical assistance (TA) grant ended in May 2021. These TA grants have been supporting the training and technical assistance programs many of you depend on. Unfortunately, the most recent round of 2021 solicitations did not include similar funding opportunities that we could apply for.
Which means we won!
Of course, this doesn't mean that Start By Believing and other victim-centered investigations are going to cease. So we need to continue our efforts to assure all investigations on campus and in the criminal system are impartial, fair, and honest.
Thank you to everyone who has helped get word out...and definitely share this Update on social media!
Sincerely,
Edward Bartlett
