Petition update'One of the worst days of my life:' Stop sham 'Start By Believing' investigationsHobart College Gets Slapped Down AGAIN, by the Same Judge Who Ruled in 2017 Case

As you know, this petition was inspired by the use of a victim-centered investigation against Matt Rolph, former student at Hobart College in Geneva, NY. In that case, Judge Elizabeth Wolford ruled against the college, citing its unfair and biased investigation. That happened back in 2017.

But Hobart College apparently didn't learn its lesson. Because three years later, a sexual misconduct complaint was filed against a different male student. This time, the college contracted with Tamara Chase -- pictured above -- who runs an outfit called CSC Investigations, which promises "accuracy" and "integrity" in its investigations.

Long story short, the man was kicked out of the school, so he filed a lawsuit against the College and against Tamara Chase.

According the lawsuit, Chase used the guilt-presuming, trauma-informed approach:

  • "Plaintiff additionally claims that the trauma-informed approach prohibits an investigator from “(i) ask[ing] a complainant basic questions, such as clarifying inconsistencies in her story or filling in gaps; (ii) observ[ing] the complainant’s demeanor as part of a credibility assessment; or (iii) tr[ying] to drill down on the details and establish a timeline of the night.”

In other words, don't ask too many questions so the truth doesn't come out.

In her ruling of June 25, 2021, Judge Wolford allowed Doe's breach of contract claim against Chase to move forward. And who knows, maybe she will have to issue a public apology for her biased treatment of the student?

The Dean of Hobart College is Scott Brophy. Maybe we should all send a polite message to Dr. Brophy, asking, When is your college going to end its Kangaroo Court investigations? Here's his email: HobartDean@hws.edu
