Jake Lilly is running for District Attorney in Jefferson County, Colorado. Unfortunately, he doesn't know the first thing what it means to be a prosecutor.

On Sunday, he published an editorial -- attached -- that made this bizarre claim:

• In our society today there exists an inherent, inexplicable distrust of the survivor, the one telling their story. No matter if it is a male or a female, a child or an adult, their story is just too unbelievable to have ever really happened.

In fact, the opposite is true. The public reflexively feels sympathy, concern, and even outrage when a woman says she has been sexually assaulted. Which is part of the reason why our system of law embraces the presumption of innocence, to counter the tendency to mob justice.

Lilly then calls for a "seismic shift in societal attitudes:"

• We have to create an environment where survivors are sure they are going to be believed. We have to create an environment where survivors know that they are protected against retaliation and won’t be  judged for their actions. 

Mr. Lilly doesn't have a clue about due process, fairness, or the presumption of innocence. Let's all call out his bias.
